Role & responsibilities
1. Edit manuscripts, including research articles, book chapters, and educational materials, for accuracy, coherence, and adherence to style guidelines.
2. Review content, including text, graphics, and multimedia elements, to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with publishing objectives.
3. Collaborate closely with copyeditors, typesetting and editorial team members to refine technical content and address any inaccuracies or inconsistencies.
4. Conduct verification and cross-referencing of technical information to ensure accuracy and reliability.
5. Format and style manuscripts according to established publishing guidelines, including adherence to house style, citation and reference formats.
6. Perform level 1 language editing, proofreading, and copyediting to enhance readability, grammar, punctuation, and overall quality of content.
7. Work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet TAT and publishing schedules.
8. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to STM, STEM, and books publishing.
9. Test and provide constructive feedback to copyediting tool developers to improve the tools, workflow, and effectiveness of tool in production environment.
10. Work closely with production teams to oversee the layout, design, and production process of publications, ensuring consistency and accuracy of final output.
Preferred candidate profile
1. PG or bachelor’s degree in STEM-related field (e.g., Biotechnology, Microbiology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) or a related discipline.
2. Proven experience as a Technical Editor, Pre-editor, or similar role in the publishing industry, preferably in STM, STEM, or educational or humanities books publishing.
3. Good command of English speaking, writing, and with a keen eye for style details.
4. Strong technical editing skills with proficiency in editing tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat).
5. Familiarity with technical subject matter and terminology, particularly in STM, STEM, and educational books fields.
6. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with copyeditors, developers, and production staff.
7. Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced publishing environment.
8. Knowledge of publishing standards, guidelines, and best practices, including familiarity with style manuals (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, APA, AMA, etc.).
9. Adaptability and willingness to learn new skills and technologies to enhance editorial processes and workflows.
10. Passion for publishing and a commitment to producing high-quality publications that advance knowledge and education in STM, STEM, and books fields.
